What’s Included

Every installation of Salut includes:

  • Inference engine — hardware-accelerated local inference through MLX on supported platforms

  • Control plane — OpenAI-compatible API server on local port 7258

  • Peer transport — authenticated TLS listener on peer port 17258 by default

  • Peer discovery — automatic mDNS/Bonjour discovery on your local network

  • Trust management — Ed25519 identity and mutual pairing

  • Distributed inference — automatic model sharding across peers

After Installing

  1. Launch Salut — on macOS, a waving hand icon appears in your menu bar.

  2. Your machine is assigned a unique identity and starts discovering peers.

  3. Open Settings to configure your preferences.

  4. See the Getting Started guide for next steps.

Updating

When a new version is available, download and replace the app. Your settings, identity, and peer trust database are preserved — they’re stored separately from the app itself.
